Queensland Zoo
is often overshadowed by nearby
Australia Zoo and even its immediate neighbour, but now that the zoo houses the animals from Alma Park Zoo it is becoming a destination itself. You will find it (and the Big Pineapple) in Woombye on the Sunshine Coast, about an hour north of Brisbane.
The zoo is quite small and on first sight just looks like a clump of trees with little more than a few farm animals.
You can buy food to feed the farm animals
No Australian zoo is complete without kangaroos
However, there is actually quite an eclectic assortment of creatures here. Some of the most exotic ones include a sun bear (the only one in Queensland), red pandas, and tamarins and marmosets.

As well as just looking at the animals there is an opportunity to get your photo taken while holding some of them, like a koala or crocodile, and close encounter experiences with many others (most at pretty reasonable prices too). A few talks and feedings take place throughout the day if you're looking for an extra experience for no extra charge.
The koalas are fed every afternoon
Most people who visit the zoo take advantage of the small train that takes you down to the attraction from the top of the hill where the car park and Big Banana complex are located. It's not compulsory though; you are allowed on the path through the tracks.
The Big Pineapple is of course the main other attraction here. And in addition to offering a photo opportunity, you can climb to the top of it, through rooms on the inside that are like a mini museum.

If you visit the zoo and the Big Pineapple on Saturday there will also be
markets taking place. It's their fresh produce that draws the most customers, and the part makes up about 50% of the products on sale.
